Oskar

25th March 2001 - 14th November 2006

We lost Oskar on the 14th November 2006 after a short and sudden illness, words cannot describe how heart broken we all are.

Oskar was a real gift, he came into my life as a bold and energetic 5 month old pup that someone was re-homing. I could never have anticipated then what a superstar he would be. I was only taking him temporarily until I found a new home for him but he made a big impression and I couldn't let him go, eventually he went to live with my brother and his family but still came competing at flyball with us on the weekends and stayed here for the holidays, a member of our extended doggy family.

Oskar, or to give him his full name ‘Oskar Mayer Wiener Dog’ …a silly nickname we christened him as a pup after the famous 1960’s American hotdog brand that carried the catchy advertising song…

Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
That is what I truly wish to be
'Cause if I were an Oscar Mayer wiener
Everyone would be in love with me

And that’s how he was…loved by all who met him…

He was a unique dog, one in a million…one of the best ‘non collies’ to run in BFA flyball, fast, consistent and reliable over his short career and a key member of our multibreed team.

He will be remembered by the flyball fraternity for his sparkling personality and zest for life, the way he would ‘spring’ up the front of you when he knew you had a tennis ball somewhere about your person, the way he would always sit himself on your lap as you sat by the side of the ring waiting for the next race, the way he could find water ANYWHERE and would disappear across fields and always come back wet…usually taking a little flock of border collies after him who would never have dreamt of doing such a thing without their little ‘ringleader’…the way when he found water he wouldn’t hesitate and would just dive off the steepest of banks so that he would disappear under the surface and then you’d never get him out (guaranteed to draw a crowd in the park!)...how on the beach he would just be an excited noisy dot in the distance chasing all the sea birds gathered on the sands…the way his tail NEVER stopped wagging…the happiest little soul alive...

He will be remembered by his family for always being happy no matter what...always having something in his mouth...socks, baby toys...anything...if something dissapeared you knew exactly where it had gone!! Enthusiastically greeting all visitors to the house...stretching out and taking up the whole sofa in an evening and his endless patience with baby Charlie who could crawl all over him...pull his ears and lips and tail and then cuddle up and fall asleep with him. Everyone's best friend....how he will be missed by the whole family...

5 years old is just too young to lose any dog but especially one as vibrant and energetic as Oskar…he will be sadly missed by such a lot of people…

…run free at the bridge Oskar Mayer…until we meet again…

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.
